In 2008 The REaD Group PLC launched a £25,000 Data Bursary Scheme to help charity and volunteer organisations overcome their reputation for poor data management. The aim of the scheme was to help a charity to eliminate inaccuracies from its donor and prospect database and gain valuable insights on their supporters, which would increase their ROI and decrease the adverse environmental impact from direct mail.
Breast Cancer Care was selected as the recipient of the inaugural Data Charity Bursary after presenting a unique and well thought out case of how their charity would benefit from the award As part of the bursary, Breast Cancer Care was given access to The REaD Group's Gone Away Suppression File (GAS), Xpression and The Bereavement Register (TBR) together with MPS and PAF-checking filters as well as data insight services to the value of £25,000.
Through the work undertaken with The ReaD Group, the charity has improved the quality and accuracy of its data as well as identifying 'supporter segments' and typical 'supporter journeys'.
Macmillan Cancer Support

In order to maintain the integrity of their core data, Macmillan Cancer Support outsource their data cleansing activities to leading bureau consultancy and subsidiary of The REaD Group plc, meta-morphix Ltd.
Providing excellent customer service and innovative time saving solutions, meta-morphix is working with Macmillan to take their data strategy to the next level by automating their data processing using a unique solution called INLINE, which has been tailored to their specific needs. Currently in the testing phase, INLINE will take Macmillan's campaign data from a secure ftp site and undertake routine tasks such as de-duping, flagging deceased records and address tracking with no human intervention.
Because INLINE will automate the routine processing tasks according to Macmillan's exact specifications, a clean mailing file will be returned to them within hours of submitting the original campaign file. In addition, meta-morphix will return all flagged and newly identified addresses to Macmillan at the end of the month so that they can update their database quickly and easily.
